Privacy Policy

Effective 2 September 2026 · Version 1.0

Pre-release draft. Operator details, support availability, retention periods and the deletion process must be confirmed before launch.

1. Who we are

Linkland is a strategy game for two players, made for phones and tablets and run by the Linkland team (“Linkland”, “we”, “us”). We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy.

Our registered developer details are published by the app stores on the Linkland listing on the App Store and Google Play. For anything in this policy — including a request that we identify the controller in writing — email linklandgame@gmail.com; we answer every message from a person.

2. Short version

Linkland does not ask for an email address, a password or a social login to play. Your account is created from an identifier generated on your device. We handle the data needed to run matches, keep your progress, and keep players safe from abuse — nothing more.

No adverts. Nothing to buy. No tracking software from other companies inside the game. We never sell your data or hand it to anyone for advertising, and this website sets no cookies at all.

3. Data we handle

DataWhy we handle itHow long
The identifier your phone gives the game. A random string the game creates on your device the first time you open it, and the account our servers build around it. So the game knows you without a password, and so your progress stays with you. While the account exists.
Nickname and player code. The display name you choose and a short code derived from your account id. To show you to opponents and friends, and to let another player find you deliberately. While the account exists.
Gameplay data. Matches played, moves within a match, results, scores, ranked rating, statistics and leaderboard entries. To run the game itself on our servers, keep your progress and work out the rankings. While the account exists.
Social data. Friends, sent and received invitations, and the players you have blocked. To let you play with people you choose, and to keep a blocked player away from you in matchmaking and invites. While the account exists or until you remove the relationship.
Reports. Who reported whom, and the nickname and player code of the reported account. If you write to us by email instead, whatever you put in that message. To review abusive behaviour and enforce the Terms of Use. Up to 12 months after the report is closed, longer if an investigation or a legal obligation requires it.
Connection details. Your IP address, the temporary key that keeps you signed in, the times you connect, and the notes our servers write when something goes wrong. To let the game in without a password, keep a game alive when your connection drops, work out what went wrong when something breaks, and protect the service from abuse. Up to 90 days in ordinary logs.
A few basic events. Our own servers note plain facts such as “a game started” or “a game finished”, along with a handful of details like which mode it was. Nothing leaves our servers. To see whether the game actually works for people — do games finish, does anyone reach a screen — and to fix what does not. Up to 24 months.
Support and deletion correspondence. The email address you write from and whatever you include in your message. To answer you, verify that a request belongs to the account owner, and keep a record that we handled it. Up to 24 months after the request is closed.

Your nickname is the one piece of this you write yourself, and every other player can see it. Please do not put personal information about yourself or anyone else into it.

4. What we never collect

  • No email or password to play
  • No advertising identifiers
  • No location data
  • No contacts or photos
  • No microphone or camera
  • No payment data
  • No third-party trackers
  • No sale of personal data

The current game has no advertising or purchase SDKs. This website self-hosts its fonts, images and scripts and does not use analytics or tracking cookies. A hosting provider may still process your IP address and ordinary request logs to deliver and secure the website; the provider and retention details must be confirmed before launch.

5. How we use data

  • Create and maintain your game account and profile.
  • Match you with an opponent, run the match on our server and let you reconnect to a match in progress.
  • Save results, statistics, ranked rating and leaderboard standings.
  • Deliver friend invitations and keep blocked players apart.
  • Review reports, moderate nicknames and enforce the Terms of Use.
  • Detect, investigate and stop cheating, abuse and attacks on the service.
  • Diagnose crashes and connection failures, and improve the game.
  • Answer support, privacy and deletion requests.
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling with legal effects, or automated decision-making that significantly affects you. Enforcement decisions — for example a suspension — are reviewed by a person.

6. Legal bases (EEA, UK and similar laws)

  • Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) — running the game you asked to play: accounts, matches, progress, friends, support.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — keeping the service secure and usable, preventing cheating and abuse, reviewing reports, understanding whether features work through our own limited product events, and defending legal claims.
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) — responding to valid legal requests and keeping records where the law requires it.
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — only where we ask for it explicitly; you can withdraw it at any time.

7. Sharing and processors

We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for advertising or cross-context behavioural advertising. We disclose data only in these cases:

RecipientPurpose
Our cloud hosting providerRuns the game servers and the database that store the data described above, under a data-processing agreement, on our instructions only.
Other playersYour nickname, player code, avatar initial, ranked standing and match results are visible to the opponents, friends and leaderboards you take part in.
App stores — Apple and GoogleDistribute the app and provide their own aggregated statistics to us. Their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies.
Professional advisers and authoritiesWhere necessary to comply with law, enforce our terms, or establish or defend legal claims.

8. International transfers

Our servers are located in [REGION]. If personal data is transferred outside your country — including outside the EEA or the UK — we rely on an adequacy decision where one exists, or on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum where relevant), together with additional safeguards where they are needed. Write to linklandgame@gmail.com for a copy of the relevant safeguards.

9. Retention

We keep data for the periods stated in section 3. When a period ends, or when you delete your account, we either delete it or permanently strip out everything that ties it to you. Anonymised, aggregate records — such as the total number of matches played on a day — may be kept without a time limit, because they identify nobody.

Backups follow their own cycle and are overwritten within 30 days. Data already deleted from the live service is not restored from a backup except to recover the service as a whole.

10. Deleting your data

You can ask us to delete your Linkland account and the personal data attached to it at any time. The account deletion page explains exactly what is deleted, what is kept and for how long, and gives you a request form. We do not require you to install the game to make that request.

11. Children

Linkland is a general-audience game. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13, or under the higher minimum age that applies in your country (for example 16 in parts of the EEA). We do not use the game's data to build advertising profiles of anyone.

If you believe a child has created an account, write to linklandgame@gmail.com and we will review it and delete the account and its data where the law requires.

12. Security

Games are decided on our servers, not on your phone: the app asks to make a move and the server checks whether it is allowed, so a tampered copy of the game cannot cheat its way to a win. Traffic between the game and our servers is encrypted while it travels. Only the people who need access to live player data have it, each with their own login, and that access is recorded. We keep the software we depend on up to date.

No service can promise perfect security. If a breach affects your personal data and the law requires notification, we will notify the relevant supervisory authority and affected players without undue delay.

13. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:

  • confirm what data we hold about you, and get a copy of it;
  • correct data that is wrong — you can change your nickname yourself in the game;
  • delete your account and its data;
  • restrict or object to certain processing based on legitimate interests;
  • receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format;
  • withdraw consent, where processing was based on consent.

Write to linklandgame@gmail.com. Because accounts have no email address attached, we will ask for your player code and, where the request is sensitive, for confirmation from the device that holds the account — this is only used to check that the request is really yours. We answer within 30 days, and tell you if we need longer. Exercising a right never costs anything and never makes the game worse for you.

You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. In the EEA that is the authority of your country of residence; in the UK it is the Information Commissioner's Office.

14. Regional notices

California (CCPA/CPRA)

In the last 12 months we collected the categories described in section 3: identifiers (device account identifier, account id, player code, IP address), internet or network activity (gameplay and connection data) and, if you write to us, the contents of that message. We collect them for the business purposes in section 5, from you and from your use of the game. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we have not done so in the last 12 months. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. You have the rights to know, delete, correct and to non-discrimination; use the contacts above to exercise them. We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by the CPRA.

EEA and UK

See sections 6, 8 and 13 for legal bases, transfers and rights.

Other regions

Where local law gives you stronger rights than this policy describes, those rights apply.

15. Changes

We update this policy when the game changes. The effective date and version at the top always show which version you are reading. If a change materially affects how we handle your data, we will announce it in the game before it takes effect. Past versions are available on request.

16. Contact

Everything — privacy requests, support, safety reports and formal notices — reaches us at linklandgame@gmail.com. Put “privacy” in the subject line and it goes to the right person first.

Our registered developer name and contact details are published on the Linkland listing on the App Store and Google Play. If you need them in writing for a complaint or a supervisory authority, ask and we will send them.
